Stockmann and award-winning young designer Henna Lampinen enter into cooperation; a unique plus-size clothing collection to be introduced in August
Stockmann, press release 18 June 2024
Stockmann and award-winning designer Henna Lampinen will introduce a collaborative henna collection of plus-size clothing in August. The exclusive collection for Stockmann aims to highlight young Finnish design and meet customers' wishes for a more diverse selection of plus-size fashion. The design is based on Stockmann's customer survey on plus sizes.
Henna Lampinen, winner of the Young Designer of the Year 2023 award, will create a unique collection for Stockmann. The collection focuses on plus sizes 46-56 and consists of ten garments that can be easily combined with each other. The henna collection will be available in Stockmann’s Helsinki city centre department store and online at stockmann.com in mid-August. The design is based on Stockmann's customer survey on plus sizes.
“We believe that fashion should make everyone feel great. We have had a lot of customer feedback that Stockmann does not have a wide and interesting enough range of plus-size fashion. It has been a great pleasure to join forces with Henna and inspire our customers with the upcoming collection. By working together, we want to support this great young Finnish designer and show our customers that we are developing our assortment based on their feedback," says Maiju Niskanen, Stockmann’s Category Director, Women’s fashion and accessories.
In her design, Henna Lampinen focuses particularly on plus-size fashion and has taken a prominent stand for more accessible fashion.
“As a plus-size woman, I find it particularly delightful how the henna collection with Stockmann has conveyed a desire to change the images usually associated with plus-size clothing. In the collection, I try to cater to a wide range of different needs and users. While I hope that the clothes will encourage customers to try something completely new for themselves, there are also products for more cautious dressers.”
Stockmann surveyed customers' views on plus-size fashion
At the end of last year, Stockmann carried out a survey to gain more insight into the factors driving the shopping behaviour of its plus-size customers and their perceptions of the current selection. The analysis of the survey was compiled from the responses of the 280 customers who completed the survey and indicated that they wear size XXL or above.
One of the findings was that customers looking for plus sizes wanted more colours and better fitting cuts. As many as three quarters of respondents said that shopping for more festive clothing was particularly challenging. In addition, respondents wanted plus-size clothing to be more prominently displayed in department stores.
The henna collection has been designed with particular attention to versatility and adaptability to different occasions. Moreover, most of the products in the collection are made from surplus materials from fashion houses, with the exception of knitwear made from organic cotton.
“We believe that Henna’s skilful hands, vision and cheerful and open-minded approach to fashion will attract our customers. We really look forward to showing the collection to our customers," Maiju Niskanen continues.
The henna collection designed by Henna Lampinen will be available in Stockmann’s Helsinki city centre department store and online at stockmann.com on 15 August 2024.
