Earth Hour shuts the lights around the world for the 10th time
Finland’s Stockmann department stores will participate in this worldwide event again this year
Earth Hour is the biggest environmental campaign in the world. It’s arranged by the WWF and signals the time to watch out for the environmental state of the world by shutting all the possible lights. With this symbolic gesture everyone can express their worry about the state of the environment and the climate crisis.
Earth Hour is arranged on Saturday 19 March at 8.30-9.30 p.m. The theme of the event in Finland is ‘The largest candlelit dinner in the world’ and the object is to activate discussion about the environmental effects of food. Last year circa 2 billion people around the world participated in the event. In Finland there were as many as 1.5 million participants, among them a large number of cities, companies, schools and other communities.
Stockmann has been a part of the event for several years and participated by turning off the lights in Finland’s department stores for one hour where possible. This year all the department stores in Finland, excluding Jumbo, will turn off all façade, window display and entrance lights. In addition to this the ad screens will be shut down.
