THE STOCKMANN GROUP’S SALES IN MAY 2005
STOCKMANN plc STOCK EXCHANGE RELEASE June 9, 2005, at 9.30
THE STOCKMANN GROUP’S SALES IN MAY 2005
The Stockmann Group’s sales in May were EUR 142.7 million, up 2.1 per cent
on last year’s figure.
The best sales increase in May was reported by Seppälä, up 12 per cent.
The division has succeeded very well the whole first part of the year.
Growth in Finland was 8 per cent as against 44 per cent abroad. The strong
growth in Seppälä’s sales abroad was attributable to the growth of the
store network in the Baltic countries and in Russia as well as the sound
increase in the like-for-like sales in the international market areas.
The Department Store Division’s sales in May were up 8 per cent. Sales in
Finland grew by 3 per cent as against 34 per cent abroad. The strong
increase in sales outside Finland was due to the growth of the network of
stores in Russia, the new department store that was opened in Moscow in
December as well as the sound like-for-like growth in all the
international market areas.
Stockmann Auto’s total sales were down 6 per cent on the previous year.
The decrease in sales was due entirely to the transfer of the Volkswagen-
Audi dealership in Herttoniemi to Kesko Corporation as from July 1, 2004.
Comparable sales, stripping out the Herttoniemi dealership, grew by 20 per
cent.
Hobby Hall’s sales were down 10 per cent on the previous year. Sales
decreased by 6 per cent in Finland and by 34 per cent abroad. The decrease
in sales was attributable to a change in the timing of campaigns both in
Finland and abroad as well as the withdrawal from the Lithuanian market
during the first part of the year.
