Stockmann Group has published its CSR report 2013

Helsinki, Finland, 2014-04-29 12:15 CEST (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) —
STOCKMANN plc, Press release 29.4.2014

Stockmann’s CSR report for 2013 presents the results of the company’s responsibility work. During 2013, Stockmann continued its long-term work to improve the transparency and monitoring of its supply chain. In May 2013, Stockmann was the first Finnish company to join the Bangladesh Accord to improve factory safety. Lindex published a list the factories that manufacture its products on the fashion chain’s website. Today, Stockmann will make public a list of factories it uses to manufacture its own brand fashion products.

“In 2013 we conducted a broad survey of our stakeholders and the feedback from this survey has helped us to develop our operations. Our aim is to engage with our personnel and partners to take responsibility into account throughout the value chain,” says Nora Malin, Director of Stockmann’s Corporate Communications.

“For instance, we’ve responded to our stakeholders’ wishes to increase the transparency of our supply chain and will publish a list of the factories that we use to manufacture Stockmann’s own brand fashion products in conjunction with the publishing of our CSR report. As of autumn 2014, a country of origin will also be added to these products,” says Malin.

Highlights of our 2013 responsibility work:

More transparent supply chain

In May 2013, Stockmann was the first Finnish company to join the Bangladesh Accord on Fire and Building Safety.

In 2013, Lindex published a list of suppliers and factories that it uses. Stockmann was the first Finnish company to publish a corresponding list for its own brand fashion products on its website on 29 April 2014. Seppälä’s list will be published later in 2014.

A total of 378 audits and factory inspections were carried out in the own brand fashion product supply chain. 21 electrical inspections were also carried out at the factories that Stockmann uses in Bangladesh.

Working for the good of the environment

Stockmann’s department stores in Finland have a 96.2 per cent waste sorting rate, which ranks them among the best in the retail sector.

Calculation of the carbon footprint was centralised for the first time and its scope was extended with regard to waste management in Russia and import freight.

More responsible materials were used in fashion products: a total of over 12 million products made from organic cotton, recycled or Tencel fibre or from Better Cotton were on sale during the reporting year.

Working together with our customers

In 2013, Stockmann’s department stores in Finland joined the New Children’s Hospital 2017 project.

Lindex and its customers participated in the Pink Ribbon campaign for the 11th time, raising EUR 1.2 million to fight breast cancer.

The CSR report 2013 has been published on the stockmanngroup.com website in Finnish, Swedish and English. The Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) G3 reporting guidelines have been used as the framework for the report. The GRI indicators have been chosen on the basis of relevance and are included in a separate section in the report.
