Stockmann’s work on climate change at a good level
Stockmann plc, Responsibility news, 22 January 2020
Stockmann again participated in the international Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) survey and received the score B, which indicates that Stockmann’s work on mitigating climate change is at a good level.
The international climate initiative, Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP), published its assessment of the level of reporting and management of greenhouse gas emissions by companies on January 20, 2020. Stockmann calculates its carbon footprint annually and based on that has since 2011 been responding to the CDP Climate Survey. Improving energy efficiency and mitigating climate change through setting emission reduction targets are a central part of Stockmann’s CSR work and strategy.
In the 2019 survey, Stockmann’s score was at a good level, with the score B, as in the previous three years. Score B indicates that Stockmann’s work to mitigate climate change was on a good level: the company measures and assesses its environmental impact, understands the risks and opportunities associated with climate change, has taken action to mitigate climate change in its operations and has set emission reduction targets which are being implemented systematically. This score places Stockmann in the better half of the reporting companies.
Emilia Gädda, Stockmann’s CSR specialist, says that Stockmann has made good progress in its energy efficiency targets in recent years and points out a few highlights: “Over the period of 2018-2019, we streamlined our operations and managed to decrease the electricity use of our operations in Finland by 4%. Also, a decision was made to procure certified wind power to our distribution center in Tuusula, starting from the beginning of 2020. In addition, last year we upgraded the entire first floor of the Tallinn department store to LED-based lighting and replaced the refurbished Tallinn Delicatessen’s refrigeration equipment with more energy efficient options.”
