STOCKMANN GROUP PRELIMINARY SALES IN JULY 2009
In July, the Stockmann Group’s sales amounted to EUR 150.2 million, down
7.0 per cent on July 2008. The euro-denominated sales were affected by the
clearly weaker Swedish krona, Norwegian krone and Russian rouble.
Sales by the Department Store Division declined by 13.5 per cent; 8.3 per
cent in Finland and 24.8 per cent abroad. The sales trend in the
department stores in the Baltic countries was clearly weaker than in the
department stores in Finland. The rouble-denominated sales by the
department stores in Russia decreased by 9 per cent. The July sales were
affected by the start of the summer sale already in June in the Baltic
countries and Russia, as well as by the fact that there were clearly fewer
products on sale in these markets than last year. In Russia, there is one
department store more than in July 2008.
Sales by Lindex developed very favourably and, in local currencies,
increased by 16 per cent on July 2008. Lindex’s euro-denominated sales
were up 4.2 per cent; 11.8 per cent in Finland and 3.1 per cent abroad.
Sales by Seppälä were down 5.9 per cent. Sales declined by 5.2 per cent in
Finland and by 7.3 per cent abroad. The sales trend in the Baltic
countries was clearly weaker than in the other markets. In Russia,
Seppälä’s rouble-denominated sales increased by 26 per cent.
Hobby Hall’s sales were down 13.3 per cent. Sales declined by 1.8 per cent
in Finland and by 75.2 per cent in the Baltic countries. The strong
decline in sales in the Baltic countries is attributable to the closing of
operations to be completed by autumn 2009. After this Hobby Hall is going
to concentrate solely on developing operations in the Finnish market.
