STOCKMANN GROUP’S SALES IN APRIL
STOCKMANN plc STOCK EXCHANGE BULLETIN May 12, 2003, 10.30 a.m.
STOCKMANN GROUP’S SALES IN APRIL
In April, the Stockmann Group’s sales were up 9 per cent. Due to Easter,
the number of selling days in Finland fell one day short of that in April
2002. Sales by the Vehicle Division continued growing extremely strongly
and were up as much as 43 per cent. Sales by the Department Store Division
were up 2 per cent, thanks to the successful Crazy Days campaign in
particular, whereas sales by Hobby Hall and Seppälä fell short of last
year’s figures. Sales by Hobby Hall were down 15 per cent on the previous
year owing to e.g. the fact that the catalogue scheduling was different
from that of April 2002. Sales by Seppälä were down 11 per cent on the
figures last year. Seppälä has the stocks of merchandise well under
control. Therefore Seppälä has been able to avoid taking part in bargain
sale campaigning caused by the decrease in demand.
